How to cancel Disney+
If Disney+ bills you directly, log in at DisneyPlus.com in a browser, select your profile, then Account, select your Disney+ subscription under Subscription and choose Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of your current subscription term. If a partner such as Apple, Amazon, Hulu or Verizon bills you, the steps are different, and monthly subscribers billed by Disney+ can pause instead of canceling.
Who bills you for Disney+
Disney+ says that if you bought your subscription through a third-party billing partner, billing and account management are typically done through that partner. The US partners it lists are Amazon, Apple, Google, Hulu, Kroger, HBO Max, Roku, Spectrum, Total Wireless, Verizon and Xfinity.
- Apple: existing Apple-billed subscribers manage or cancel in iPhone Settings. New and returning subscribers can no longer sign up and pay for Disney+ through Apple.
- Hulu: a bundle billed by Hulu can be managed on your Hulu account page or, if eligible, through Disney+. See how to cancel Hulu.
- Roku: even if you signed up on a Roku device, Disney+ says to manage or cancel directly through Disney+.
- Verizon and Xfinity: you can manage the subscription with the provider, and Disney+ says you also have the option to cancel directly through Disney+.
- Amazon: go to Amazon's Memberships and Subscriptions page, find Disney+ and select Cancel Subscription.
Cancel Disney+ billed directly
Disney+ gives these steps for a computer or a mobile browser. On an iPhone, open Safari.
- Log in at DisneyPlus.com. Use Safari on your iPhone or a browser on a computer.
- Select your profile. Select your Profile.
- Select Account. Open Account.
- Select your subscription. Under Subscription, select your Disney+ subscription.
- Cancel Subscription. Select Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of your current subscription term.
Changed your mind before the term ends? In the same Account screen choose Restart Subscription, then Agree, and it carries on without interruption. Once the term has ended the subscription is fully canceled and you'd need to subscribe again.
Cancel Disney+ billed through Apple
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen, then tap Subscriptions.
- Select your Disney+ subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
If Disney+ isn't in that list, Apple doesn't bill you for it. Check DisneyPlus.com instead.
Bundles: two subscriptions, two cancellations
If you had a Hulu, ESPN or HBO Max subscription before you upgraded to a bundle, Disney+ warns of “additional complexities”:
- Cancel the original subscription and the Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Bundle continues uninterrupted.
- Cancel the bundle and your original Hulu, ESPN or third-party billed subscription continues at its then-current price, unless you cancel that one separately as well.
- A Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max Bundle bought through HBO Max is managed through HBO Max.
What happens after you cancel
- Access runs to the end of your subscription term. How long that is depends on whether you were billed monthly, annually or are in a promotional period. Disney+'s cancel article describes access to the end of the term rather than a refund.
- Your account isn't deleted. After canceling you have the option to delete your Disney+ account, but that's a separate request.
- Rejoining after the term ends means subscribing again.
Pause Disney+ instead
If you have a monthly subscription billed by Disney+, you can pause it: Account › your Disney+ subscription › Pause Subscription, choose the duration, then Pause Subscription again. Disney+ notes that certain plans may not be eligible.
- The pause starts on the first day of your next billing period; you can stream until then.
- While paused you aren't charged and can't watch.
- Pausing a bundle pauses the other services in it, and an Extra Member or add-on is paused too.
- Choosing Resume Subscription early bills you immediately and starts a new billing period.
- Third-party billed subscriptions can't be paused through Disney+.
A reminder before Disney+ renews
Annual plans are the easy ones to forget, because the charge only shows up once a year. In Subs, add Disney+ with its renewal date and choose a reminder up to a week before, so you decide before the term rolls over. If you also pay for Hulu or a bundle, add each charge separately; seeing them side by side is the fastest way to notice you're paying twice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cancel Disney+ from the iPhone app?
Disney+'s instructions use DisneyPlus.com in a computer or mobile browser. If Apple bills you, cancel in iPhone Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions.
Do I lose Disney+ immediately when I cancel?
No. You keep access until the end of your current subscription term, which depends on whether you were billed monthly, annually or are in a promotional period.
Can I pause Disney+?
Yes, if you have a monthly subscription billed directly by Disney+, though certain plans aren't eligible. The pause starts with your next billing period.
I canceled Disney+ but I'm still charged for a bundle. Why?
The bundle and your original subscription are separate. Canceling one leaves the other running, so cancel both if you want neither.
Can I sign up for Disney+ through Apple?
Not anymore. Disney+ says new and returning subscribers can't sign up and pay through Apple, though existing Apple-billed subscribers aren't affected.
Does canceling delete my Disney+ account?
No. Canceling stops the subscription. Deleting the account is a separate option you can choose afterwards.
