How to cancel Apple Music

Short answer

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap Apple Music and tap Cancel Subscription. When the subscription expires you can no longer play songs from the Apple Music catalog, playlists built from the catalog disappear and Sync Library turns off. Music you had on your device before you subscribed stays. If Apple Music isn't in the list, it's part of Apple One or billed by a carrier.

  3. Tap Apple Music. Tap the Apple Music subscription. If you have Apple One, it's listed as Apple One instead.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. You might need to scroll down to find the button.

Cheaper options before you cancel

Apple's cancel and plan pages don't describe a pause for Apple Music, so the choice is between a cheaper plan and canceling.

Trials and refunds

Apple advertises a free first month for new subscribers, and three months with some new devices; both renew automatically. Apple's advice for any trial is to cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.

Refunds for Apple Music are decided by Apple. If you were charged for a renewal you didn't want, cancel first, then request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. The steps are in how to request an Apple subscription refund.

Catch the renewal, and the student price jump

Apple Music hides inside a combined APPLE.COM/BILL line on your statement, so it's easy to pay for it long after you've moved to another music service. In Subs, add Apple Music with its renewal date for a reminder before each charge. If you're on the student plan, record the price change when it converts and Subs shows what the increase costs per year. Ask Subs “which subscriptions should I cancel?” and it lists the ones you've marked as rarely used, with what each costs per year.
