How to cancel Tinder Gold, Plus or Platinum
Deleting the Tinder app, or even your Tinder account, does not cancel a subscription. If Apple bills you, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Tinder and tap Cancel Subscription. If you paid by card, log in at tinder.com, tap your profile icon, select Manage Payment Account and tap Cancel Subscription. Tinder says in-app payments through the App Store are currently unavailable in the US, so recent US subscriptions are usually card-billed.
The mistake to avoid: deleting isn't canceling
Tinder is direct about this in its help center: “Uninstalling or deleting the app won't cancel your subscription,” and “Deleting your account won't cancel an active subscription.” If you delete your profile after a date goes well and never cancel, Tinder Gold keeps renewing.
Cancel the subscription first. Delete the account afterwards if you want to.
Find out who bills you
Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum are all canceled the same way; what matters is how you paid. Tinder identifies that by the start of your order number:
| Order number starts with | You're billed by | Cancel in |
|---|---|---|
| MK | Apple (bought in the Tinder app for iOS) | iPhone Settings › Subscriptions |
| TNDR | Tinder directly (bought on Tinder.com or by card) | tinder.com › Manage Payment Account |
| GPA | Google Play (bought in the Android app) | Google Play › Payments & Subscriptions |
For US iPhone users there's a twist. Tinder's payment help says: “In-app payments through Apple's App Store are currently unavailable in the US,” and that purchases open a payments screen in your phone's default browser. A subscription bought recently on a US iPhone is therefore usually billed by Tinder (TNDR), not by Apple, and won't be in your iPhone's Subscriptions list. Older subscriptions may still be Apple-billed.
The quick check: open Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions. If Tinder is there, Apple bills you. If it isn't, use tinder.com.
Cancel Tinder billed by Apple
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find and select the Tinder subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
Cancel Tinder paid by card
For purchases made on Tinder.com, or in the app with a card, PayPal or another web payment method:
- Log in at tinder.com. In Safari or any browser, go to tinder.com and log in.
- Tap your profile icon. Tap your profile icon.
- Select Manage Payment Account. Select Manage Payment Account.
- Find the subscription. Find the subscription you want to cancel: Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. Tap Cancel Subscription. You can keep using the paid features until the end of the current term.
What happens after you cancel
- You keep the paid features until the term ends. For subscriptions bought directly from Tinder, its Terms of Use say you may continue to use the canceled service until the end of your then-current subscription term.
- Your profile stays up. The terms note that canceling your subscription does not remove your profile. To stop being shown, turn off Enable Discovery in Tinder's Settings, or delete the account.
- Included perks expire. The weekly Super Likes and monthly Boost that come with Gold and Platinum expire if unused.
- Deleting the account costs you purchases. Tinder says that if you delete your account and create a new one, you lose any consumables you bought.
Refunds
- General rule: Tinder's terms say that generally all purchases are final and nonrefundable, with no refunds or credits for partially used periods. Its help center adds that some exceptions apply and invites you to get in touch about a purchase made in the last 14 days.
- Apple-billed: refund requests are handled by Apple, not Tinder. Use reportaproblem.apple.com; see how to request an Apple subscription refund.
- Three-business-day right in some states: Tinder's terms say subscribers residing in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Wisconsin may cancel, without penalty or obligation, at any time prior to midnight of the third business day following the date they subscribed.
Switching to a cheaper tier
Going from Platinum or Gold down to a cheaper tier isn't a one-tap change everywhere. For card-billed subscriptions Tinder says it does not support downgrading: you cancel, let the subscription expire and then buy the tier you want. If Apple bills you, change the plan from the subscription in iPhone Settings, and the change takes effect when the current subscription expires.
Hiding your profile is a different thing from pausing billing. Turning off Enable Discovery hides you; it doesn't stop a subscription from renewing.
Keep a dating subscription from outliving its use
Dating apps are the subscriptions people most often stop using without canceling, and weekly or monthly renewals add up quickly. In Subs, add Tinder with its billing cycle and you get a reminder before each renewal. Mark it as rarely used in the monthly check-in and Ask Subs will include it, with the yearly cost, when you ask “what should I cancel?”. The cancel card links to Apple's subscriptions list for Apple-billed plans.
Frequently asked questions
Does deleting the Tinder app cancel Tinder Gold?
No. Tinder says uninstalling or deleting the app won't cancel your subscription, and neither will deleting your account. Cancel the subscription itself first.
Why isn't Tinder in my iPhone's Subscriptions list?
Because Apple doesn't bill you. Tinder says App Store in-app payments are currently unavailable in the US, so recent purchases are billed by Tinder directly. Cancel at tinder.com under Manage Payment Account.
How do I know who bills me for Tinder?
By the order number: MK means Apple, TNDR means Tinder directly (Tinder.com or card), and GPA means Google Play.
Can I get a refund for Tinder Gold?
Tinder's terms say purchases are generally final and nonrefundable, with some exceptions. Apple-billed purchases are refunded by Apple, and residents of certain states can cancel within three business days of subscribing.
Can I downgrade from Tinder Platinum to Gold?
Not directly if you pay by card: Tinder doesn't support downgrading, so you cancel, let it expire and resubscribe to the lower tier. Apple-billed plans can be changed in iPhone Settings, effective at expiry.
Does hiding my Tinder profile stop the subscription?
No. Turning off Enable Discovery hides your profile but doesn't cancel anything. Billing continues until you cancel the subscription.
